Hawkesdale’s 150th!

My small little town called Hawkesdale is having it’s 150th celebration on the 26th, 27th and 28th February 2011.

This event will be a great achievement for such a small, rural town. It has taken sacrifice and a lot of persistance and hardwork to keep this town going of the past years and this celebration will show the benefits of the communtiy’s spirit.

On the Friday evening an Artshow is going to be held with wine and cheese tastings also available.  The Saturday will be the biggest and main day for the weekend. A small community ‘festival’ will be occuring during the day with things like jumping castle, face painting, woodwork, paper-making and maybe even a street parade. There will be plenty of food available with the local group running a BBQ. There will be plenty for the parents to do with market stalls held down the main street and musical entertainment provieded. A formal and RSVP dinner only will be held Saturday night. Sunday will be a small wind down with a community BBQ and hopefully the opening of the newly refurbished ‘ Common’ area. A track and signs constructed by the youth of Hawkesdale and hopefully a rotunda thanks to the local organisation Hawkesdale and District Development Action Committee (HADDAC).

I hope to see many people at this event: the youth of today and the youth of yesterday. It isn’t just for members of the Hawkesdale committee, we would love to see anyone there to help support a wonderful occassion.

A book is also being put together for this occassion on Hawkesdale. If anyone has any photos or information regarding Hawkesdale please commment on the blog or send me an email. I would happily refer you to the person in charge of the book or pass on any information or photos received.

Sports Day!

This year the Year 12’s organised a more competitive dat with much more participation. There was a supporters award up for the grabs for the best dressed. Dressing up to support your team comes as common knowledge but not many people actually do it… Even more don’t participate at all! With all the hype it’s clear we had a record breaking number of students participate in the sports. We had some very interesting costumes come with this hype. There was superman in blue, little yellow cooking superheroes and lil yellow and blue kids running everywhere.

While Mitchell has won at least the last 4 years straight, we Mitchellians didn’t go in overally confident. While there was support for yellow, we knew blue would come all out. And they did!! What suprised me more was the response from Mitchell. While we have won, our track record is terrible when it comes to participation. Congratulations to every Mitchell person who participated!

By the end of the day we still hadn’t completed the 200m races or relays plus the presentations were still to come. As time flew by, the organisers pulled the pin for the day. Everyone returned the next day for the rest of the events. While everyone was tired and sore from the day before, the teams came out fighting. Mitchell dominated the relays which eventually got them over the line. At the end of term assembly, Mitchell was declared the House team winner… Yet again!

Cousins in the country

From the sunshine and sand all the way out to the ‘bush’ AKA country comes cousins that we don’t see very often. They’re twin boys that are going into grade 3. They used to lived in surburban Melbourne then moved to a town on hte beach. Now they bring their caravan and set it up in our backyard. Yes that’s right… they set the caravan in OUR backyard. They met some new and challenging experiences including picking up a raquet and playing tennis for the first time ever! They had a swim in our pool while also rowing in the inflatable boat. My brother and I used our strength and age to dunk them whenever we could. We also got outside and played a game of backyard cricket. They constantly used the Wii which was fun. We all played against each other and by the end of their trip became very competitive. While they camped in their caravan in sleeping bags, I tucked up in my own comfy bed. They ate some very very good food if I do say so myself. I made my famous Chicken Pie, mum made her fried rice and zucchini quiche and my brother made his awesome sausage rolls! They had a great time and would love to come back again!

My Super Hero!!

Hey everyone this is the super hero I created. I used Marvel. I had a lot of fun creating it. I also used Paint to add a few extra details.

Elluminate Review

On Wednesday 9th September the 9/10 ICT elective class went into an Elluminate room with a teacher and 2 students from Ringwood. They presented a ‘Cyber Bullying’ presentation to us. It was very informative and interesting. They used the Elluminate room well. They used the polls several times and also asked us to use the whiteboard as well. This was good because they made their presentation interactive. It wasn’t just them talking. Our internet dropped out at one stage and all of us disconnected. This was disappointing because it was during the presentation. Overall using the Elluminate room was good fun. It’s something new and interesting. We can chat, webcam, talk and use the whiteboard. The chat is good fun because some of the thigns that come up can be random and interesting. The whiteboard is great because everyone seems to want to draw or write on it. I would love to use Elluminate more often.

Hackers and Cracker

What are Hackers and what are Crackers? What’s the difference between the two?

Here is the definition!

Last night at 7:30pm, a Cracker got into the Prime Minister’s blog and tampered with it apparently due to a protest of proposed reforms of Internet censorship. The website was brought down for about an hour last night. Apparently the website of the Australian Communications and Media Authority was also hit.

My Book Cover

This week is Literacy and Numeracy Week at our school. We used several sites to find different characteristics of our book cover. We had to go to different sites to get the name of the author, name of the book and the picture for the cover. For the name of the book we used the random word for a verb and for the picture we used the first picture that came up.

It was good fun to create a book cover because it was something different and unusual. I think my cover turned out pretty good.

What do you think?
