Hawkesdale’s 150th!
My small little town called Hawkesdale is having it’s 150th celebration on the 26th, 27th and 28th February 2011.
This event will be a great achievement for such a small, rural town. It has taken sacrifice and a lot of persistance and hardwork to keep this town going of the past years and this celebration will show the benefits of the communtiy’s spirit.
On the Friday evening an Artshow is going to be held with wine and cheese tastings also available. The Saturday will be the biggest and main day for the weekend. A small community ‘festival’ will be occuring during the day with things like jumping castle, face painting, woodwork, paper-making and maybe even a street parade. There will be plenty of food available with the local group running a BBQ. There will be plenty for the parents to do with market stalls held down the main street and musical entertainment provieded. A formal and RSVP dinner only will be held Saturday night. Sunday will be a small wind down with a community BBQ and hopefully the opening of the newly refurbished ‘ Common’ area. A track and signs constructed by the youth of Hawkesdale and hopefully a rotunda thanks to the local organisation Hawkesdale and District Development Action Committee (HADDAC).
I hope to see many people at this event: the youth of today and the youth of yesterday. It isn’t just for members of the Hawkesdale committee, we would love to see anyone there to help support a wonderful occassion.
A book is also being put together for this occassion on Hawkesdale. If anyone has any photos or information regarding Hawkesdale please commment on the blog or send me an email. I would happily refer you to the person in charge of the book or pass on any information or photos received.
